Of course, no one else in the Biogenesis scandal was targeted for a year-long suspension. While Rodriguez seems to have saved what’s left of his 2013 season, the entire 2014 campaign and the start of 2015 is on the line. By that time, he will be 40 years old and likely have even less to offer than he does now.

Pitching has been a problem for the Knights all season, no pitcher having more than one victory to his credit. They have been outscored by 40 runs and the team ERA is a bloated 5.15 over 225.1 innings and the team WHIP is 1.487.

Even more concerning is the fact that Chicago has now scored a total of two runs in those three losses after averaging 4.1 runs a game this year. Pitching has also been an issue as the team’s ERA has climbed to 4.07, ranking it ninth in the AL. Left-hander John Danks will get the start in this one for the sale jerseys. He is 2-8 this season with a 4.54 ERA but has managed to win his last two outings by giving up a total of two earned runs in 15 innings pitched.

24. Minnesota Twins – The big question in Minnesota is if Ron Gardenhire will keep his job. It’s unlikely the Twins will show much improvement for another couple of years.

The atmosphere at U.S. Cellular Field was electric, as a crowd of 40,354 rabid Sox fans dressed in black witnessed one of the most exciting games in Comiskey Park/U.S. Cellular Field history. The “blackout” was a success, as the Sox did what the University of Georgia could not do Saturday night.

Manager Joel Skinner did a masterful job at holding together a team that had a revolving door at the clubhouse entrance. No major league team can survive a season with that many players coming and going, but it is the nature of the beast in the minors especially at the Triple-A level which is one step away from the show.

Then there is Major League Baseball. The Majors have never used instant replay for anything and continue to not use it even here in 2007. Is it time for MLB to begin using instant replay in regular and postseason games? Many fans, journalists, and even those involved directly in the game would say that it is indeed time. However, not everybody is in agreement.

Brad Ziegler finished the year with a 3.26 ERA, but that number doesn’t tell an honest truth. Ziegler struggled, taking a bullpen-high seven losses on the year, and his strikeout-to-walk ratio was downright mediocre: he struck out only 41 batters in 60 2/3 innings, while walking 28 batters. Putting that many batters on base with a free pass is a big problem for a reliever.
